Kep city is a small capital town of Kep province. The town is a small seaside resort and is filled with ruined shells of history; old villas that were destroyed during wartime can be still seen. The town is is famous among beach lovers, because of its white sandy beaches and proximity to Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island).

It is a favorite weekend getaway destination among the expat community of Phnom Penh because of its laid back vibe and delicious sea food. For tourists, there are few destinations to visit like Kep Beach, National Park, Sailing Club, Colonial Villa, Caves, Crab market and Rabbit Island.

There are more than 100 old French villas in Kep. Most of them are destroyed and many became temples. In Kep, you will find 3 major caves, with Kompong Trach being the biggest one. Among beaches KepBeach is the favorite one. The beach is quite small but is full of white sand and peaceful surroundings, and offering of great sea food, this beach is a fun and easy way to relax. Rabbit Island is a 20 minute boat trip from the beach. Another beach is Angkul Beach which is on the east side of Vietnam border. It is a 45 min boat ride from the town. On the way to Angkul Beach, lies a salt field.

How to get there

Reaching Kep is not difficult from other cities of Cambodia. From Phnom Penh, there are many buses to Kep that takes around 3 hours to travel. Phnom Penh Sorya and Champa Mekong buses leave to Kep from Phnom Penh on regular intervals daily. Buses start from the respective bus stops of each bus operator in Phnom Penh and terminate in the town. Alternatively, visitors can also take buses from Phnom Penh to Kampot and then take a moto or taxi from Kampot to Kep.
