Siem Reap

Siem Reap City is known to be the historical gateway of the Khmer Empire. The Angkor Archaeological Park comprises beautiful and legendary temple ruins including Bayon, Ta Prohm and the legendary Angkor Wat, whose artistic and archaeological significance and visual impact can be seen through the Pyramids, Machu Pichu and the Taj Mahal.

Cambodia’s Siem Reap region is a die heart tourist destination and that’s why it offers a wide range of activities. Mainly one should not miss the traditional Apsara Dance and other traditional performances. If you have an artistic vision then you will definitely find handicraft shops and silk farms more interesting. The Siem Reap Town is a cluster of small villages along the Siem Reap River. One can reach Siem Reap by air from Phnom Penh and Bangkok and by road from most prominent destinations. There are many small villages built by Buddhist Pagodas(Wat) which are spread across the banks of Siem Reap River. But the main town offers shopping experience for traditional and handicraft items.

What will mesmerize the most is Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the remains of the Khmer civilization. It is the most visited destination which has a huge wall space with loaded carving depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. On the way you will find many other temples like Ta Prohm, Preah Khan, Banteay Kdei, Phnom Bakheng, Ta Keo, Ta Som, East Mebon, Pre Rup and Neak Pean.

Along with temples one can also visit War museum and Angkor National Museum. For a short trip visit Phnom Dei, a hill near Siem Reap River and Banteay Srei, a very old temple famous for its architecture.

Siem Reap has a smooth local transportation system as compared to other cities of Cambodia. One can easily find taxis and tuk tuks. Just take a tuk tuk and start your fun filed journey to travel along the Angkor Wat. The bus from Phnom Penh takes about 6-7 hours to reach Siem Reap.
